This is a bit of a drive compared to other restaurants, since it's technically in Fabens, but it is well worth it. Cattleman's isn't just a restaurant, it's an experience! They allow you to tour the Ranch and grounds, including a petting zoo, and their steaks are some of the best you'll ever have.

Sightseeing / Hiking

A must-do if you enjoy nature, history, and hiking. Get there early because it reaches capacity on busy days, and you’ll enjoy cooler weather. Hueco Tanks is in the heart of the Chihuahua Desert and is made up of a group of massive natural rock basins known as “huecos.” These unusual rock formations gather and trap water in an otherwise arid region and are a must-see at Hueco Tanks State Historic Site. The huecos have been a dependable water source for local communities and sojourners from time immemorial. The huecos are found on the 860-acre Hueco Tanks State Park, and tours of the tanks and pictographs are free with entry to the park. There are over 3000 rock drawings on these natural rock basins. Some pictographs date to as early as 6000-3000 BCE and are in the early archaic styles. History enthusiasts will be in for a treat.

Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, this is a creative and unique house that was painstakingly decorated over a 25-year period as an expression of love, with ornate hand-carved cement sculptures. Rufino Loya promised his wonderful wife he would build something beautiful, and Rufino delivered! Started in 1973, Rufino completed it in 25 years of effort! Rufino also respected the Catholic churches of his native Mexico, as there are religious inscriptions on the house. Pineapples, which are symbols of hospitality in Mexico, also adorn the house.

This is a beautiful historic landmark, originally built in the 1930s and restored to its original atmospheric theater splendor in 2006. The beautiful theatre is worth a tour or even better, check out scheduled performances (search 'El Paso Live'). The theatre was built with Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and features intricately painted ceilings, mosaic-tiled floors, decorative metal railings and antique furniture. As one of the remaining atmospheric theaters in the United States, The Plaza conveys the illusion that viewers are seated outdoors in a Spanish courtyard. The stars on the ceiling reflect the Southwestern sky in June. In addition to its rich decor, the Mighty Wurlitzer Blaban III Organ is one of only six ever made. The organ has 1,071 pipes and can simulate 15 different instruments. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you appreciate the arts.
