Miss Penny Cakes – her sweet Greek pastries are to die for, my favourite every time I come back to Melb is the Ek Mek and of the savory either the Greek feta bagel or the brioche egg & bacon roll with homemade relish. Andy her husband does the best coffee (sometimes the young staff coffee is not as good). Her carrot cake is YUM, it’s all delicious. Try it all!

Al Alamy, 51 Waterfield St, Coburg is the place to go to feel immersed in Melbourne’s middle eastern community. Its cheap and delicious. The labneh pizza is my favourite (it’s not really a pizza)– its fresh mint, olives, tomato and labneh & cucumber – its all fresh! Russell’s favourite is the potato parcel.

Postmistress, 71 Melville Rd, Brunswick West does great food – pizza and pasta, and does half size AND price serves for kids which is awesome. They have delicious cocktails and excellent tiramisu!

Gorgeous somewhat upmarket Vietnamese eatery that does just a handful of classic dishes extremely well. My kids (and I) are obsessed with their noodle salad. I like it with the grilled chicken skewers whilst they prefer the homemade spring rolls. Has yummy wine as well....

Cheap and yummy Japanese food, 1km from the house. Walk up or catch the 58 Tram to the last stop on Bell St. Daggy/awesome 80's décor and excellent service. is usually quiet.

This is a middle eastern sweet mecca!!! Its AMAZING! The baklava is my favourite, but there is so much choice its overwhelming, and they will do you up a big 1kg mixed batch of whatever is fresh. Run, don't walk to Balha's!
