Galileo Coffee Company café and roastery is nestled on the shores of Howe Sound in Britannia Beach, BC. Opening in 2005, we are housed in the charming 1905 'Matheson House'. Once the home designated for the manager of the nearby copper mine and his family, our fare is modeled after a traditional Italian style café; with a focus on in-house baking, quick eats and specialty coffee. Customers can enjoy their coffee or tea while watching the waves roll in under the watchful eye of snow capped Mount Sedgwick. Or those hoping to learn more about the roasting process can experience it through our view window. Don't hesitate to ask for a closer look.

Only minutes from Vancouver, Porteau Cove is the perfect waterfront camping destination. Many of the campsites are on the waterfront. The beach is a great place for exploring and enjoying the stunning views of Howe Sound. Fishing (outside of the Provincial Park boundary) and boating are very popular in the area. There are two paved boat launches with day parking for trailers in the park.

Brandywine Falls (the spectacular 70 metre waterfall) is best seen from the viewpoint which also presents some marvelous views of Daisy Lake and the surrounding mountains. This park provides opportunities for hiking, picnicking, mountain biking and viewing of the waterfall. The park was tripled in size in 2010 to include unique habitat for red-legged frogs (a provincial “blue listed” species at risk). A number of existing recreation trails were included in the expanded park as well.

Steeply rising from Lower Joffre Lake, the glacier-laden peaks are visible from an easily accessible viewpoint 500 metres from the parking lot. If you carry on, the trail becomes a rough, rocky and steep hike through the Coast Mountain range. Evidence of the park’s glacial history can be found in the U-shaped valleys, glacial silts and lateral moraines. This magnificent area of jagged peaks, icefields, cold rushing streams and turquoise blue lakes was established as a recreation area in 1988 and became a Class A park in 1996. A highlight of the park is the turquoise blue waters of Lower, Middle and Upper Joffre lakes, all three of which are located along the trail, and each more stunning than the last. Their striking, saturated blue colour is caused by “rockflour” – or glacial silt – that is suspended in the water and reflects green and blue wavelengths of sunlight. Joffre Lakes Provincial Park has opportunities for hiking, camping, mountaineering, wildlife viewing, and fishing.
