Drinks & Nightlife

The Cross Keys is testimony to the fact that the preference of the Londoner is still for Victorian clutter. A permanent amber hue suffuses this foliage covered pub, reflected from the copper and brass artefacts that adorn every available inch of wall and ceiling. Definitely a pub for those happy to completely lose track of the passage of time.

Tucked away down a little alley, the Retro is one of gay London’s secret gems, a small mixed indie bar where eccentrics are welcomed. The music mixes ’70s, ’80s, New Romantic, goth and alternative, and is reflected in the decor, which features photos of iconic rock and pop figures, from Bolan to Bowie.

An atmosphere that’s part Weimar Berlin, part New York basement dive, with a touch of public convenience thrown in, Cellar Door is not your average bar. Sophisticated cocktails (not to mention a huge range of wines and beers). It has a text message jukebox.
