Balthazar is a French bistro iconic to this area. Even if you don't make it for a full meal, it's worth going to their bakery for a fresh pastry and a coffee.

Rustic, cozy (but spacious) vibe, Freemans has amazing cocktails and a rotating food menu that never disappoints. The bartenders are also very friendly if you decide to sit at the bar.

Casual, low-key German bar/restaurant. In the summer they've got a lovely patio, in the winter they serve up some delicious mulled wine- so it's a great place all year round.

Not only do they have delicious, reasonably priced brunch (and outdoor seating weather permitting), but their basement also hosts underground intimate dance parties on the weekends.

Not only is this a museum, but it also offers free walking tours, rich in the history of lower NYC. My parents went when they were in town 2 years ago and my mom Still talks about how great it was.

The best thing in recent history to come out of Canada, this store has a wide range of styles and if you can catch them during one of their sales, you can find some great deals.

There are other places to buy groceries closer to the apt, but for those that prefer the Non-NYC experience (aka multiple options and space to move), Whole Foods is less than 5 blocks away.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff with a wonderful selection of wines, including plenty of delicious options for under $12. They also now carry a small selection of spirits. I seriously love this place.

The closest laundromat to the apartment (less than 1 block away) in case you want to pack extra light (hrs: 8am-8pm [last load 6:30pm]) they also offer drop-off laundering services and dry-cleaning.
