Within the museum space, you can explore The Forfar Story by wandering through a recreation of an old, narrow cobbled street called The Vennel. You can peer inside several small shops, including Peter Reid’s sweet shop, a knockmaker’s workshop and a baker’s shop, with displays of bread and bridies!

The Eassie Cross slab is one of the earliest examples of a Pictish cross-slab dating to the late AD 600s. It’s in a remarkable state of preservation – while weathered, details like the musculature of the deer depicted are still clearly visible.

The site is around 1700 acres with numerous access points and parking on both the main roads and smaller roads surrounding the woodland. The network of tracks is popular with walkers, mountain bikers and, in winter, husky racers.

Carrot Hill is a small summit in the Sidlaw Hills, with a height of 259 metres / 850 feet. Follow the B978 from Dundee out through Kellas to the hamlet of Bucklershead and take the road to the left signposted West Denhead. Follow this narrow road through the rolling Angus countryside as it climbs gently taking you through a forest of conifers. As you emerge from the trees you just have to pull into the handy car park to admire the view.

Glamis Castle was the setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as well as the childhood home of the current Queen Elizabeth. Today you can enjoy both the inside of the castle and the grounds – and both are worth a visit.
