Lovely restored building, newly developed since the earthquakes. Boutique shops, a little different from the usual malls, and fantastic bars and restaurants. More being added all the time.

Lyttleton's a great town on the other side of the Port Hills, badly affected by the earthquake but going through a revival with new cafes and bars. Worth a visit - beautiful harbour views.

Lovely way to pass some time, hire a canoe or paddleboat and row yourself or be 'punted' down the Avon. Bikes also for hire for biking around the city.

Akaroa is a lovely village on the far side of Banks Peninsula. A beautiful 1 1/2 hr drive to get there. Settled first by the French, still retains some of its French heritage. Worth visiting.
