New Orleans has lots of snowball stands, but this one is a legend. In operation by the Hansens for decades (don't know if mom and pop are still alive) , it's a place even locals will stand in line to get a snowball.

One of my favorite "guilty pleasures." Frady's is just a "joint" or "hole in th wall." Attracts lots of colorful local characters, and the same family has been running it forever. Great place to get a poboy. Just a few sidewalk tables for dining.

A great place for reasonably priced pasta, salads, stromboli. Sit under the covered patio and watch the Maple Street scene. Birds may come up to your table and beg for crumbs.

There are more brands of pralines in New Orleans than you can shake a stick at. They are all pretty good. Loretta's pralines are in a category by themselves. They literally melt in your mouth without the gritty-sugary texture of other pralines. Notice: Ms. Loretta is a fine lady, but her helpers may act like they're doing you a favor to sell you anything.

Most people don't come to New Orleans to eat Chinese, but if you're in the mood China House is worth a try. It's mostly a take-out joint with zero atmosphere, but the do have few tables. The food is good and cheap, cheap, CHEAP. For $10 - $12, their dinners are enough for two people and include a massive serving of fried rice.
