Cozy, long time local restaurant, owned by neighbors, and only 1 mile away. Great atmosphere with very friendly staff and lots of good energy! Their fresh oysters are delicious!

Hana Yori is about 45 minutes away in Mishawaka. It is a Japanese steak house with an egg yolk sauce that is unique to all of my travels. When my brother comes, he goes as many times as possible!

The Mark III is a long time favorite in the area. Their food quality has really improved with the new generation taking over. I definately recommend it as a local experience. The food is good. The prices are fair. However, do not come to sit outside or for atmosphere.

Schu's is a simple restaurant with fair food in downtown Saint Joseph with a view of Lake Michigan over the bluff. You can sit outside in the summer with a view of the lake!

The Crimson Cafe has really good homemade food, mostly sandwiches I think. I tried it once during covid and my sandwich was tasty but I could not go in. I think this place is an excellent lunch choice for take out. and is less than 10 minutes away.

I mention the Bistro with caution. This used to be my favorite restaurant in the area. They have been through many chefs and the last time that we attempted to go there, they could not make and did not know what vegetarian food was for my daughters. The staff made a joke of it and it was a very unpleasant experience. Nevertheless, you can eat outside on the balcony with a view of Lake Michigan and a friend recently reported on facebook having a great meal there.

Planks is a modern somewhat upscale restaurant with a nice atmosphere in a hotel on the water in Saint Joseph. It has had many chefs and I am not sure about the quality at this time.
