There is a ramen shop in Japan called Jiro (not to be confused with the famous sushi shop of a similar name). Jiro features thick, wheaty noodles in a mega-porky soup. Add to that copious amounts of garlic, top with a mountain of bean sprouts, drizzle the whole thing with pork back fat, and you have the base of a bowl of Jiro ramen. There are other factors, but essentially this is a bowl that is tough to finish, and you'll smell like it for the next twelve hours. Jiro has spawned many Jiro-style shops. One of the best is Senrigan. The soup is intense, but drinkable. The chashu is thick-cut, but tender. The toppings are plentiful, with raw garlic, back fat, spicy crisped rice, and the stand

Waiters dressed as ninjas usher you through a series of winding wooden corridors designed to evoke the interior of an ancient Japanese castle, decorated with treasure chests and similar cool details. Others sneak up with menus and food, and there’s also an itinerant magician. It’s good, harmless fun and very popular. Food is Japanese with plenty of Western tweaks – just go for the sushi if you get tired of reading the lengthy menu scroll, or splurge on a dinner course (from ¥5,700) for the full monty. This certainly isn't the cheapest theme restaurant in Tokyo, but it just might be the best.

The "Shinyokohama Raumen Museum" is a unique museum about ramen, a very popular Japanese noodle dish which was originally introduced from China. In a gallery on the first floor, the Ramen Museum presents the history of ramen noodles in Japan, including the big success of instant ramen. It displays the variety of noodles, soups, toppings and bowls used across Japan, and shows how the noodles are made. On the two basement floors, visitors can explore a 1:1 replica of some streets and houses of Shitamachi, the old town of Tokyo, of around the year 1958, when the popularity of ramen was rapidly increasing. Nine ramen restaurants can be found there, each featuring a ramen dish from a different

The restaurant, with the name of 竹亭 (Restaurant with bamboo), is located at the foot of Mt. Takao and is surrounded by lush greenery. The meticulous Japanese garden has a tea room, Koi carp pond, and water wheel, where we offer seasonal dishes in a Japanese room featuring traditional architecture. Simple but premium experience. Feast on the beautiful changing seasons of Japan with your eyes and tongue to experience Japanese wabi-sabi. http://www.ukai.co.jp/english/chikutei/

Miyota There is always a line out the door at Miyato, and for good reason. Their seasonal soba selections (in August 2015, conger eel tempura with cold soba) are a cut above other local offerings. Definitely recommend if you are in the Aoyama/Omotesando part of town. Menus have English as well as pictures too which is helpful for foreigners, and prices fall in the 800-1100 yen range.

With an impressive reinventing stage, Kaguwa incorporates non-stop energy and emotion into both its daily Oiran-za show and weekends-only Biou-za show. The premise of both shows is the red-light district of the Meiji era (1868-1912) when the oiran, or Japanese courtesans, were known as masters of entertainment, cultural arts and conversation. Arts & Culture

This large museum’s outlandish architectural style may not appeal to everyone, but the building houses the city’s best collection of displays dealing with the history of Tokyo. Highlights include large-scale reconstructions of Nihonbashi bridge and a kabuki theatre, as well as detailed models of quarters of the city at different eras. Exhibits outline lifestyles and show how disasters, natural and man-made, altered the city’s landscape. The English labelling is good.
