Described as a "hidden gem", the recovery centre is clean, thoughtfully built and educational. The grounds and habitats are beautiful with many cool places to explore and relax. This is a world-class rehabilitation facility for bears, eagles, owls, falcons, ravens and other wildlife, with an interactive learning centre and gift shop. Centre is open 9-5, and has an entry fee of $8 adults and $5 children. There is even a picnic area, should you choose to bring your lunch and spend the day.

Set amid lush old and second-growth forest of Douglas fir, cedar, hemlock and maple, Englishman River Falls is a beautiful area with well-groomed hiking trails, and features two stunning waterfalls cascading along the descending riverbed into a deep canyon. The lower falls end in a deep crystal-clear pool - an ideal swimming hole in the summer when river levels are low and a great place to view spawning salmon in the fall.

25 minutes from cabin - Nestled on the western shore of Cameron Lake, the park straddles Highway 4 (the Alberni Hwy) and is home to the famous Cathedral Grove, a 157 hectare stand of ancient Douglas fir. Plan to spend a few hours wandering the very accessible trail system, gazing up at 800 year-old giant trees, and get a sense of what Vancouver Island and the west coast looked like before the arrival of European settlers. This is the only highway-accessible protected old-growth Douglas fir forest in B.C. and it made the short list on CBC's "Seven Wonders of Canada" competition. There is parking off the road, and paths on both sides of the road. This is a must see!
