Food Scene
This is a pub and fish restaurant with some meat and vegetarian options. We love to sit outside on a sunny afternoon and enjoy the seafood cocktail with a glass of chilled white wine. Work up an appetite beforehand (or make reparation afterwards) by walking the beach from Carne, all or part of the way, to St. Helens. You may meet a dog walker, a golf widow(er) or 2 or maybe you will be the only person for miles. We just love this beach.

You could stay here - because they do accommodation - but we prefer to stay in Tagoat and enjoy their world class restaurant run by a renowned "celebrity chef". Aurthurstown and Duncannon are close by. Both are worth a visit and you could even take the ferry at Ballyhack and find yourself not just in a different county (Waterford) but in a different Province (Munster).

Aurthurstown and Duncannon are close by. Both are worth a visit and you could even take the ferry at Ballyhack and find yourself not just in a different county (Waterford) but in a different Province (Munster).

It's a bar and a music venue (aren't all the bars in Wexford town?). Numerous reviewers agree with us and say it's the best pub in Wexford. You would probably have to try them all to be sure!

Parks & Nature
It's a magnificent castle with spectacular ornamental grounds and gardens where you'll also find the Irish Agricultural Museum. Check out ‘The Great Famine’ through an exhibition which vividly reveals what life was like before, during and after the famine in Ireland in the mid 19th century.

It's a magnificent castle with spectacular ornamental grounds and gardens where you'll also find the Irish Agricultural Museum. Check out ‘The Great Famine’ through an exhibition which vividly reveals what life was like before, during and after the famine in Ireland in the mid 19th century.
I've selected Parks and Nature + Beach but there is the harbour and marina, pubs, restaurants and ferries to the Saltee Island (bird sanctuary) or sea angling boats to hire or charter. A beautiful memorial garden dedicated to souls lost at sea is another attraction. Take away fish and chips to die for!

You'll think you must be in the wrong place until you go inside. Go in - even to have a coffee. The cafe has panoramic views of the town and estuary.

Shopping
Walking along the pedetrianised Main Street with all the shops is a delight at any time of the year but especially during the Festival. Grafton Street in Dublin is only trotting after it!

Essentials
Murphy's is in a small shopping centre next to the ferryport. They sell all the usual stuff you find in a supermarket. There is also a cafe, post office and pharmacy. Next stop Wales or France: always interesting people to talk to or just watch.

This is a big supermarket but there is plenty of parking. It's just on the edge of Wexford town in a nice area for walking and meeting the locals.
