The Cannery Village is a nice place to walk to for coffee any time of day. Alta is a popular place to hang out. They have delicious coffee and homemade muffins and other goodies. Their breakfast is good and they have an outside patio. There is a cool warehouse across the street with lots of interesting furniture, lamps, accessories and hand-made items for sale.

Their breakfast is good and they have an outside patio. There is a cool warehouse across the street with lots of interesting furniture, lamps, accessories and hand-made items for sale.
Happy Hour and late-night Happy Hour. Our son and daughter-in-law love this place.

Looks like a French bistro. Delicious breakfasts and snacks. Next door is A Restaurant, which has good food and we have heard that they have a nice Happy Hour, but haven't tried it ourselves yet. We walk to A Market for breakfast frequently from our house.

Friday night early bird Prime Rib dinner is inexpensive and delicious. They have good breakfasts, too. The people there are friendly. The theater is next door.

There is another El Ranchito on the Peninula that is walking distance from the cottage, but the one in Costa Mesa has better food, better drinks and better service. They have a good happy hour and it is only a 10-minute drive away for my favorite Mexican food in our area. I love their chiles relleno.

The best sushi place is nearby in Eastside Costa Mesa. We usually order rolls to takeout, but if you want to splurge, the omakase menu is wonderful for dining in. No ambiance, but the food is delicious and fresh.

Great place for lunch on the boardwalk near the pier. They have a daily special M-F with a different entree each day. We had the bouillabaisse and it was fantastic. The outside patio added during the pandemic is a plus.

Almost every day, we walk to 32nd Street Beach from our house with our beach chairs and towels. Because you must get around the canal, you need to walk down our street toward Newport Blvd, through the alley, across Balboa Blvd at the crosswalk, and then straight to the beach on 32nd Street. If you want to be closer to some restaurants, coffee places and shops, go to the beach at one of the two piers--Newport Pier or Balboa Pier. On weekends, you can take the trolley so you don't have to drive. Parking can be a hassle and you have to put money in the meter, so we prefer to walk or trolley there. You can also rent bikes and ride along the boardwalk for miles.
