If you look for a quiet spot, try this little square. Nice hangout for breakfast and lunch, especially when the sun is out. Filling pancakes and usually a soup of the day.

This is a good lunch place to observe city life on the busy Javastraat. Watch the whole neighbourhood passing by while you have your smoothie or sandwich.

This old farm on the outskirts of Amsterdam has now become the warm and lively center of the brand new university campus 'Science Park'.
If the sun is out, the opposite student canteen at the USC (university sports center) also has a marvelous terrace.

Walking around the KNSM and Borneo islands is a fantastic pass time. You can sometimes see huge ships pass by, but the architecture and the urban design are also worth exploring. During winter evenings I like to walk here with music on my ears. On summer days, kids know exactly where to go for safe swimming.

Movie theater. The adjacent cafe is great for a beer, and for non-fancy but affordable dinners. This place is entirely run and managed by students. Slow down a bit, as the service is not the fastest, but the atmosphere is great and friendly.
