Food Scene

It’s a great location for breakfast or lunch but also a nice place to meet for coffee. Favourite places to sit inside but in warmer weather it’s lovely to sit in the little garden at the front.

For a place serving good coffee, not opening until 10am isn’t terribly convenient for 9 – 5 people, but sleeping later to sync with Vagabundo’s opening hours may well be worth it. A bit of a hipster hangout with nice décor including a model sailing boat helps to keep the solo (coffee) drinkers entertained while sipping their beverage of choice.

The building once housed a Post Office, was most recently a branch of Credit Suisse and is now a café and restaurant. Bank at Helvetiaplatz is co-located alongside John Baker, so after you’ve had your coffee you can treat yourself to some wonderful organic bread. Lovely interior and great food too. If you go on Tuesday and Friday mornings you’ll catch the Helvetiaplatz market too.

At least as well known for supplying beans to both other cafes/restaurants in the area and the end consumer, Café Noir also has its own coffee shop serving coffee with their own roasted beans (of course). With their indoor and outdoor seating being limited make sure to time your visit right, or come here to make an investment and buy a machine, the needed accessories, a book to teach you and of course some Café Noir coffee beans.

Moroccan cuisine served on the down-low – literally. Guests are seated on traditional Moroccan poufs around low tray-topped tables in Moroccan-tiled rooms. Menu offers Mediterranean and Moroccan specialties including mezze, couscous, tagine and hummus as well as many vegetarian options.

This cafe dates back hundreds of years and each room is decorated in the most beautiful individual style. The “Salon Rouge”with its red velvet and gilt is a cosy retreat on a cold, chilly day whilst the patio outside is summery and relaxing on a sunny day. Don’t miss the beautiful old-fashioned till and the stunning light fitting in the entrance room. A must-see for visitors and locals alike.

This scene restaurant will enchant you with its fresh fish knusperli or blue trout from the lake. The menu also includes crispy chicken and a vegetable basket. And all this is combined with a unique view of Zurich and the lake. In winter, the garden is converted into a large fondue tent. The restaurant forms part of the campgrounds with the same name, the only campground in the city, and is located right by the water.

I agree its expensive, but what you get is something out of this world! Down to earth and unassuming, and all the more passionate and ambitious as a result – these words could be used to describe both Rolf Fliegauf himself and his culinary creations. The award-winning aromatic cuisine of the German-born chef focuses on the natural flavours of seasonal ingredients that, skilfully combined, come together to create an unexpected and intensive result.

Drinks & Nightlife

One of my favorite places for a relaxed beer with friends or live music. People and the bar crew are great. Just a stone throw away from Zurich main station but you'll feel like in a harbour pub. They have a huge variety of beers and liquors. Go and try Turbinenbräu's Orion beer from the tab.

Cocktails bars are often about atmosphere. This bar has it... loved their cocktails, most of them are bar’s own creations and atmosphere is great whether you come with friends or colleagues.

Arts & Culture

With its presentation of works of art, the museum seeks to not only consciously highlight the fascinating variety of artistic forms of expression, but also to arouse an interest and understanding of foreign cultures, beliefs and religions. The architecturally spectacular "Emerald", as the new museum is called, consists of a glass pavilion and fits perfectly into the existing ensemble of villas in the beautiful Rieterpark.
