We love Zaxby's! If you don't have them in your area, it's a little bit nicer than fast food so I don't want to call it that, but it's a chain chicken place. Fried Chicken, but also good Salads. Just around the corner in the Publix Shopping Center parking lot.

Very nice place! Specializes in dishes made from local produce. I highly recommend the "Southern Egg Rolls" for an appetizer. It's a spring roll with SC BBQ and Pimento Cheese. Amazing!

Paved trails along the Saluda River. Very peaceful. $5 entry fee. Has Christmas Lights during that season. It's about 15-20 minutes from the house and you get to go over the Lake Murray Dam to get there.

Raised Boardwalk makes for a nice walk through the swamp that would otherwise be quite difficult (no dogs on boardwalk, but they have trails for dogs). Even more trails for kayak/canoes. You may see alligators, boars, snakes, and a variety of fish and bird life. It's free.
Paved walkway along the Congaree River. Certain sections are still closed from the flood, but it's opened at the Gervais Street Bridge. You can walk that part, then walk over the bridge into Columbia, to continue your walk along the Columbia Canal (between the State Museum and the Congaree River).

One of our favorite hikes, just over 2 hours away, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you're in the area for a bit and want to see the SC mountains we'd recommend Table Rock, as well as several other spots in the area. It's a decent hike, but if hiking isn't your thing, you can drive to the top of nearby Caesar's Head for an incredible view of Table Rock.

Once the largest earthen dam in the world! Built for hydroelectric power in 1927, Lake Murray has over 600 miles of shoreline. The dam has a nice walkway on it for a good view of the lake, especially sunsets. You can also see Columbia in the distance.

The State House is a cool spot to visit. It's between Main Street Columbia and the Historic Horseshoe on the Univ. of South Carolina (1801). Look for bronze stars on the walls of the state house. These stars mark where Union cannonballs hit the State House, from all the way across the river, during Sherman's siege & the burning of Columbia in 1865.
