A quiet half-mile walk through the woods brings you into another time, when the primary route to this 19th century saltwater farm was the tidal river below. Explore 140 acres of woods, fields, and marsh, or relax outside the iconic saltbox farmhouse.

Take a look on Alltrails for precise trail options, but it's a lovely locals walking trails through old historical farmhouse sites. Our favorite is walking down to the peninsula and mud flats at dusk!

Pettengill Farm triggers all of the fuzzy, warm, feelies for old New England. It’s a favorite local spot that the town takes a lot of pride in. You’ll feel like you’ve travelled back in time. It’s an early 1800’s house & salt-water farm on the estuary of the Harraseeket River, and includes 140 acres of fields, woods, antique apple orchards, and salt marsh. It’s free to visit. If you’re going to go, just be aware that there isn’t a lot of parking available. You park on the street at the end of the old farm driveway. Walking down the old dirt road is about a 5-10 minute walk, depending on if you’re strolling or working off a cinnamon roll. Suddenly, the road opens up to the old field, stone walls, ancient apple trees, and the beautiful antique farmhouse. It’s a stunning location that is really just forever trapped in the 1800’s.

Excellent hikes, easy with kids. This 19th-century saltwater farm, owned by the Historical Society, covers 140 acres on the Harraseeket estuary. The terrain varies, from salt marsh to orchards – as well as fields and woods. The flora is impressive, ranging from lilacs and roses to hollyhocks and dahlias. Inside, there are a number of interesting etchings of ships and marine life.
