Deep in the mountainous region of Puerto Rico is the Tanamá river of Utuado and over millions of years its flowing waters have carved a network of caverns, canyons, and tunnels in the limestone cliffs. Several ecotourism companies lead caving, cave tubing, rappelling, hiking, and rock-climbing tours in this area, among them Aventuras Tierra Adentro, Tanama River Adventure, Tanama Tours, Cacique EcoAdventures, and others. All will require participants to be in excellent physical condition, but level of difficulty and type of activities varies according to the operator and the tour you choose.

Tanamá River Adventures offers different options to choose from. Their outdoor adventure activities include; hiking through the forest and river, crossing fields of coffee, banana, plantain and orange plantations and more. Learn about the history and culture from the local expert guides. Visit caves and caverns, as well as enjoy water springs and waterfalls. Explore their underground river experience, swimming, water jumps, waterfalls, easy climbing and explore ancient rock formations. All of their tours depart at 8:30 am or 9 am. To go out in a tour, at least 4 people or more is required. For any rappelling tours, 6 people or more are required. Good physical condition is necessary to participate in all tour activities.
