The Western Wall, Wailing Wall or Kotel is a remnant of the ancient wall that surrounded the Jewish Temple's courtyard, and is arguably the most sacred site recognized by the Jewish faith outside of the Temple Mount itself.

The Western Wall was built around 19 BCE as part of the expansion of the Second Temple of Jerusalem. The temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, and the remains of the wall are now a holy place of worship for Judaism.
