From the green and red neon sign out front to the black and white tile floor, this modern deli has so much old school New York appeal. They carry an impressive selection of savory smoked fish and caviar, plus the sweet, cinnamon babka they make in-house is amazing. It’s crowded at peak hours, but I just take a number and scan the counters. They have a sweet and sour, quick-pickled cabbage salad that’s not behind the counter, but prepackaged in their refrigerated section that I sometimes dream about.
Conseils des habitants
From a legendary appetizing shop comes this retro, full-service outpost serving Jewish comfort food.
BEST BAGEL Come in for whitefish on a bialy, leave with a pound of rugelach, a briny carton of half-sour pickles, and some black and whites for good measure.
Best bagel and lox on the entire planet, hands down. They also have a cafe on Orchard.

“They do much more than sweets, but it's the sweets that you'll get in line for. There's wild Maine blueberry pancakes and caramelized banana French toast for breakfast, plus loads of pie, cake, and milkshakes. But, if you insist on eating real protein (as fans of the bakery did years ago, pushing the owners to expand to other meals), then you won't be disappointed. Go for the fried chicken!”

“Venerable NYC bakery/deli dispensing knishes, kugel & other Jewish comfort-food classics since 1910. This is the Jewish street food snacks! Amazing knishes and the latkes came out hot and sizzling straight from the oil (not reheated in an oven to lukewarm). A crazy variety of the classics - potato, kasha, mushroom, spinach, cabbage, sweet potato or the garlic and onion. They also have sweet cheese variety’s with apple, cherry, blueberry or chocolate.”
