The Hovercraft at Hovertravel, Clarence Parade, Southsea is the quickest ferry service to reach the Isle of Wight, taking about 10 minutes to cross the Solent. The timetable starts from 6am and runs throughout the day until 9pm, unless the weather conditions are bad.

Looking for something a bit different? It's quite something to watch the hovercraft swooshing up the slipway as they go back and forth from the Isle of Wight. You can take a 10 minute return 'flight' from Southsea across the Solent to Ryde on the Isle of Wight where you land on the golden sandy beach, perfect for a paddle, a picnic or an ice cream. Look out for the Victorian sea forts on the way. Buses run regularly from the Esplanade if you wish to explore further or Ryde Superbowl is also there if you are looking for an indoor activity. If you have purchased a combined Hoverbus ticket, take the return 'flight' to head back over to Southsea and continue your nautical adventure to Portsmouth by Hoverbus, where the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (home of the Mary Rose), Gunwharf Quays designer shops and the Spinnaker Tower awaits! If you prefer to remain in Southsea, the slipway is located next to Clarence Pier and Amusement Park or head in the other direction for a stretch of sandy beach and Blue Reef Aquarium.
