Gastro pub, consistently good food. Sunday lunch with a chilled DJ. May need to book.

Don't let the young-at-heart spirit of The Fighting Cocks fool you. This is a historic pub that’s right at the heart of Moseley’s heritage. Dating back to 1899, before this suburb had ever heard of pizzerias or tiki bars, The Fighting Cocks was once king of the village. The building’s red brick and stone frontage with Dutch gables and clock tower are reminiscent of Newtown’s Bartons Arms, but whereas the latter takes pride of place as a lone gem in an urban hinterland, the former is sometimes unappreciated, fogged by its vibrant surroundings. Inside, walnut panelling and wooden floors complement bright turquoise wall tiles, while Moseley’s trademark Minton floor tiles surround the bar and, in the dining room, tiled murals depict a bygone age.

A nice old city style pub. Good food and beers but service can be slow at busy times.
