For a range of good quality meat, fish, cheese, alcohol, fruit and vegetables, a stop in Metro in Blagoevgrad (52 km before Bansko and 101 km from Sofia) is recommended if traveling from Sofia to Bansko. You will need to show your passport when you enter to get a "day pass". Bansko has small shops offering a small selection of everyday products (milk, eggs, coffee, etc.) at inflated prices. In Bansko you will not find things like fresh fish/seafood, a whole turkey, black angus beef, Hendrick's gin, Indian spices, gourmet cheeses, etc. If you'd like to cook at home, come prepared! :)
