Basilio, Nicolau's cousin: His stubbornness and courage cut through Amazonian savannas and paved the way for Brazil's holy grail: coffee. Basil, a playful and temperamental entrepreneur, became one of the great coffee barons of the nineteenth century, and as the coffee cycle grew, Basil's independence jumped out and risked his own farm.
