All the big companies are at the airport. Pre-book online and pick up your car. There will be long queues in December and January. I have used Avis and Woodford. There are others Budget etc. Watch out for being rushed through the agreement and all the extras being added. They are good at doing that after an arduous flight!! If you are a good driver you should have no problems in Cape Town. All you need is window and tyre cover.
