The walk down to the bridge is fairly easy but could be steep going back up for some and you have to cross a live train track which I can see as being a little dangerous. The original bridge was built as part of the Cariboo Wagon Trail in 1861. The bridge that exists there today was built in 1926 as the original one was destroyed by high waters in the early 1900s. As you walk across the bridge deck you can see the rushing Fraser River below your feet. There's a charm to the bridge which may have something to do with it's rich history and the fever of the gold rush which once brought many people to the area.

This one is a must see and a favourite of ours! Just a short 25 min drive up the Canyon. Walk across the open grid bridge deck looking down at the mighty Fraser!

Alexandra Bridge is 30 km north. A short easy hike takes you down to the location of the original Cariboo Wagon Road. The first bridge was built in 1861. The current bridge sits on the site of the original which was dismantled in 1912 after a flood. Limited parking is available on the left hand side of the road after you cross the Fraser River. Allow 1 - 2 hours.

This small 55 ha (136 acre) park is centred on the site of the original Cariboo Wagon Road bridge over the Fraser River. The park was established in 1984 because of its historical qualifications. It has picnic tables but no camping. Public access is via a trail from a parking lot on the east side of the Fraser, as the old portion of the pre-modernization Cariboo Highway, which used the bridge, is no longer open to the public.
