Sofia's Zoo has a great variety of animals as well as beautiful nature sceneries. A perfect place for a stroll.

Besides the possibility to see the great number of animals that Sofia Zoo looks after, the premises are located in a park and therefore the zoo is suitable to anyone who would like to enjoy a nice and relaxing walk.

Sofia Zoo was founded by royal decree on 1 May 1888, and is the oldest and largest zoological garden in southeastern Europe. It covers 36 hectares and, in March 2006, housed 4,850 animals representing 840 species.

I love the Zoo and I have loved going there since I was little. While I agree that there are arguments against zoos in general, fact is we have a zoo that is a long way from being as good or well maintained as many others in Europe. And I believe that it's in the animals best interest that our zoo gets as much support from the public as possible. So if you have a couple of hours to kill, why not stop by.
