With the aim of restoring the Han River to its prior pristine state, the Hangang Comprehensive Development Project began in September 1982 and completed in 1986. The 41.5 km area of Seoul (from Hail-dong to Daehwa-dong) changed into a life-filled river that averages 2.5 meters in depth and 175 meters in width. Riverside facilities include many rest areas, water-skiing, yachting and boating facilities, fishing spots, parking lots, and other sports facilities, including soccer fields, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and swimming pools. The Songpa-gu section stretches between the Cheonho Bridge and the Tan Stream and includes Jamsil Ferry and the Seoul Sports Complex.
