This is a strange old bohemian dive with some of the city's funkiest and most bizarre decor-soaked in neon and covered in old-school sci-fi posters (sadly, the old jukebox that only played Frank Sinatra's Witchcraft regardless of what you picked is defunct). Drink cheap beer, whiskey, or Southern Comfort. Don't expect them to know how to make fancy-pants mixed drinks. Occasional live music. Rumored to be the favorite of Nick Cage.

Dive bar that also features local music. You won't find many tourists here. If you want an "authentic experience," you'll find it here.

It's the iconic bar of the upper ninth ward. They host punk shows, pirate shows, and other music on the weekends, but all the time they're the original, first-to-the-neighborhood bar that's been around for decades. New Orleans is all about the mystery: this place is chock full of it. Across St. Claude from the Bywater, but an easy walk away from all the bars and restaurants in that riverfront neighborhood.
