Australia’s oldest museum, which we call ‘the dinosaur museum’ because there’s an enormous skeleton hanging from the ceiling, has so much to see and do. There’s a soft, squishy area for tiny ones to dress up and play as well as sections for older kids: from rooms full of dead bugs and taxidermy to an interactive ‘river’ where a crocodile or shark pops up. On a rainy day, arrive right when the museum opens at 9:30 am to make sure you get in, especially if you want to see a special exhibition. The Domain Car Park nearby has a $19 early-bird day rate if you’re in before 9:30 am and leave between 3:30 and 7 pm.

“If modern art is your bag, see this museum. You can walk there in 40 minutes or if you want to do a gallery day, it’s a 20 minutes walk to the Art Gallery of NSW in the morning and a further 20 minutes’ walk to MCA in the afternoon. Afterwards you might have a drink at one of the many watering holes in The Rocks.”
