Great views, good museum and historical buildings from Tudor times right through to the second world war. Walk along Hurst shingle spit or take the ferry from Keyhaven

Hurst castle was built by Henry the 8th and is at the end of a 1.5 mile shingle spit. It can be a tiring walk but you can get a boat back - check timings!

Well worth a visit, especially if you are an English Heritage member. You can walk along the spit to the castle. Alternatively there is a little ferry operating (not year round).

We put this in the Park category because the walk out and back, or boat trip, is so wild and beautiful. The castle itself is v cool ancient hang out for lots of kings and queens, plus a WWI and WW!! defences. Amazing place for a coastal walk that will blow any cobwebs away. Amazing cafe there too…

The castle is an ancient fortress that sticks out into the Solent. The Beach walk here is awesome. Or go by boat from Keyhaven. You can see the Isle of Wight Needles from the castle roof. Great place. Good cafe here too

“Lovely hotel and restaurant just outside Brockenhurst. I love the walled garden where they grow their own produce and a paying a visit to the Pigs. They serve freshly made flatbreads from a wood oven over lunch and early afternoon on their patio. Restaurant is lovely and is suitable for vegetarians but is a pork lovers paradise. They and Lime Wood hold festivals in the summer Smoked and Uncut. ”
