The spot we really like going to is just outside the pool. Little nooks along the springs where people setup blankets and hop in the water. (You can bring beer here, but not to the pool itself.)

If you don’t want to pay to go to the pool, park by Zilker and visit the creek side of the pool. Plenty of locals with floats and their dogs. You can rent paddle boards and kayaks here too!
