This is just a couple miles away. A short drive below Old Town, parking is easy although it will be extremely busy in mid to late July with dip netters. Fair agate hunting, better out north.

Between July 10th - July 31st on the Kenai River, you can see what is called "dipnetting" by Alaskan residents. They’ll be out to catch sockeye, Kings, and Pink salmon. It's a sight to see!

Most people do not think of beautiful sand beaches when they visit Alaska but little do they know Alaska has the largest coastline in the US. Our sandy beaches are a great way to spend a hot summer day playing in the sand and the waves or just go for a stroll up to the mouth of the river or down the way. In July you can be entertained for hours watching the dipnetters pull in their catch. Only a 20 minute drive north to kenai!
