One of the most popular heritage monuments of Surat, the Surat Castle dates back to the 16th century and was the most important defence measure adopted against the Portuguese. Also called the ¥Old Fort', this opulent monument sits on the banks of the Tapi River and is an example of exemplarily sturdy architecture.
