In the past, there was a milliner who operated a mill in the Julebodaån river that runs through the area. His name was Drake and he named the nature reserve. Drakamöllan is a nature reserve, is a national interest in outdoor recreation and nature conservation and is a Natura 2000 area. Drakamöllan nature reserve is located as a detour from Tomelilla municipality in the northeast, between Simrishamn and Kristianstad municipality. The area offers a good view. Visitors can even see the Baltic Sea, as the height difference between the lowest and the highest point is up to fifty meters. Plant Life In the past, the land was used as arable land for two years and then as pasture for ten years. Today, parts of the nature reserve are plowed at an interval of ten years to try to maintain the specific calcareous soil. The dry, woodless meadows are of the natural type of sandy steppe, an unusual type of nature consisting of lime-rich sandy soil. The sandy soils have attracted a specific wildlife in the form of sand lily, sand lizard and sand bee. In late summer the fields are covered with flowering heather. Parts of the heath are burned down each year to avoid the heather taking over the open grasslands. wildlife Among unusual animals, the butterfly black-spotted blue wing can be mentioned. This butterfly requires a very special environment because the larvae live together with a special ant near the back thyme. Kingfishers and baitfish are attracted by the river that flows through the eastern part of the reserve. The shady bird summer yellow can be seen in the deciduous forests or by the river if you are lucky, but usually it is easier to hear its characteristic sound.
