When the Downer Theatre opened in 1915. It was one of the finest and most modernly equipped in a residential district in the country, making it the prototype for "neighborhood" theatres at the time.

The other art house (and first run) movie theater not too far away... about :05-:07 by car depending on how you hit the lights.

The Downer is part of the Landmark Theater chain (like the Oriental) and also shows indie-films, generally. The Downer is small, decent projection and screens, and good coffee and popcorn. But nowhere near the experience of the Oriental. Only go here for the movies!
