In 1912, George Sebring, founder of Sebring, Florida and Sebring, Ohio, planned to build downtown Sebring as the "City on the Circle". His city plan was based on the design of Heliopolis, an ancient Egyptian City. Sebring has been designated a 1920s Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. Festivals "on the Circle" are held monthly bringing visitors from all over the state. The sunset view on the Pier on Lake Jackson is where many events are held. Near by is Highlands Little Theater & the Library. The historic Sebring Train Depot was the main transportation for shipping cattle and citrus via Seaboard Air Line Railroad's famous "Orange Blossom Special".
