my favorite place in all of Shasta a beautiful natural glacial lake with trails boat kayak launch site and hiking trail to heart lake

This trail is difficult at times, and not well marked, and has varying lengths, depending on where you start. We love day hiking all of it, but if you want to head to parking lot to enjoy lake, it is mapped on Google and Apple maps. From there, you can head left out of parking area to go to Heart Lake, about 3 miles RT. Dogs are allowed. Moderate-strenuous depending upon your fitness for this extra trek. If physical limitations, I recommend driving into Castle Lake parking area and just exploring this area :)

Perfect for hikes of all abilities or simply drive up, park and open a chair! Castle Lake has it all! Tip: Trail to the left from Parking Lot guides you up to the southern side of the lake for stunning views and a secret spot at Heart Lake.
