A must see..which is only located approximately 1.5 hours away. There are two entrances to the park and the one closest to Hwy 180 is the best. Directions: Take Hwy 77 north towards Holbrook. Go right on Hwy 180..which is located right before you enter the main part of Holbrook. Take a left onto Petrified Forest Road. Follow that until you see the visitors center/museum. Bathrooms and water stations are located throughout the park. There is another shop and small cafe located at the very end.

The Petrified Forest National Park is 25 minutes north of St. Johns. Here you can spend time walking among the ancient artifacts, inspecting their awesome colors and size! As you travel by car to the various sections of the park, you see the landscape change. Have you transported to another planet or dimension? Maybe, so! Check it out!

Petrified Forest is located east of Winslow and is on both sides of the I-40. There are two visitor centers where you can learn more about the park and purchase gifts. It offers great views of the Painted Desert and has many trails to explore where you can see an abundant amount of petrified wood. The views here are amazing especially at sunset!

Distance from our property: 161mi./2hrs 35min. Nature, geology, archaeology, paleontology and even architecture meet at this high-desert park. You’ll see loads of petrified wood, not to mention eye-popping views of The Painted Desert, which sweeps through the park. Beautiful and interesting geological views. Pretty cool drive through park if you don't have a lot of time. Petrified logs, petroglyphs, ancient native American settlement and colorful landscapes with breathtaking panoramic vistas, along with a little historic route 66 are all things to see and experience.
