A unique landmark created from a traveling glacier, the Desert of Maine includes camping, tours of the desert, gem hunts in the sand, a butterfly interaction room, and a pool for cooling off by. This is a definite must-see during your stay in Freeport. A taxi or some kind of transportation is needed due to its location.

Massive playground, gemstone hunting ground and historical / geographical point of interest. This natural phenomenon is a 40-acre area of glacial silt surrounded by vegetation. It is not a true desert and it receives plenty of rainfall. It has developed as a tourist attraction, offering tours with a guide and a barn museum. Kids can hunt their own gemstones for an extra charge; a great souvenir of your visit if you are successful.
