One of Dartmouth College's nicest features. The permanent collection is impressive and the various exhibits are definitely worth the time.

Dartmouth's collections are among the oldest and largest of any college or university in the country. The Hood Museum's collections are drawn from a broad range of cultures and historical periods and represent a remarkable educational asset for both Dartmouth and the communities of the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont. Among the museum's most important holdings are six Assyrian stone reliefs from the palace of Ashurnasirpal II (about 900 BCE) and the remarkable fresco by José Clemente Orozco titled The Epic of American Civilization (1932–34), which is now a National Historic Landmark. The 65,000 objects in the museum's care represent the diverse artistic traditions of six continents, including, broadly, Native American, European and American, Asian, Indigenous Australian, African, and Melanesian art. The museum collects, preserves, and makes available for interpretation these works in the public trust and for the benefit of all.

Dartmouth College's Hood Museum in Hanover has a permanent collection of more than 65,000 works of art and artifacts from all over the world, including important works by Picasso and several prints by artists like Rembrandt and Goya. Their collection of historical artifacts includes a mid-19th century Concord Coach, and a rather large assortment of scientific instruments that date back to 1769, the year the college was founded. The Museum is also home to many exhibits, and at one time or another has showcased objects from Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia as they passed through Hanover on their way to other museums. Spend an afternoon at the Hood; you won't be disappointed.
