It's said that the design of Hiroshima Castle, built, was based on the Jurakudai palace in Kyoto. It is known as a representative example of early modern japanese castle design. The view of the beautiful main tower from across the moat is a popular subject for photographers. the first floor of the main tower has exhibits of models and materials related to the construction of the castle, an area where visitors can try on the clothes worn by samurai, and a gift shop. The [hiroshima Castle Collection] is a permanent exhibit on the second floor. Samurai swords, armor, and helmets related to Hiroshima are on display on the third floor. Special exhibitions are held on the fourth floor.

Terumoto Mori, a powerful feudal lord whose domain once covered much of the Chugoku Region, began construction on Hiroshima Castle in the year Tensho 17 (1589), choosing for it a location with convenient access to both water and land transportation. Terumoto Mori, a powerful feudal lord whose domain once covered much of the Chugoku Region, began construction on Hiroshima Castle in 1589. Although Mori would later be demoted by the Tokugawa Shogunate after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Hiroshima Castle continued to be maintained throughout the Edo Period by successive feudal lords for twelve generations. The castle was completely destroyed in the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. It was rebuilt in 1958 and made into a museum introducing Hiroshima's history.
