The Venetian walls of Heraklion are a large fortification project, for the construction of which many engineers and craftsmen worked and huge sums of money were spent [1]. The walls began to be built in 1462 and were actually completed in 1669, with the occupation of Chandakas by the Ottomans. The original designs of the Venetian walls were by Gianno da Compofregozo, and were later modified by Michele Sanmicelli and the final design is the work of Julio Savornian. Les murs vénitiens d'Héraklion sont un grand projet de fortification, pour la construction duquel de nombreux ingénieurs et artisans ont travaillé et d'énormes sommes d'argent ont été dépensées [1]. Les murs ont commencé à être construits en 1462 et ont été achevés en 1669, avec l'occupation de Chandakas par les Ottomans. Les dessins originaux des murs vénitiens étaient de Gianno da Compofregozo, et ont ensuite été modifiés par Michele Sanmicelli et le dessin final est l'œuvre de Julio Savornian.

You can walk up of the Venetians walls and see the city view. The city center used to be closed every night for protection.
