Long sandy beach, cliff edged and bordered by dunes. Has a good restaurant and cafe. Surf hire and lessons. Beach huts for hire by the day.

Whilst the beach is very lovely, especially on an evening as the tide is high and the sun is setting, the real joy is the fact it is backed by dunes - a lot of dunes! Watching the sun set whilst sitting on dry, soft sand as the kids play in the generally safe water is fabulous, but the dunes themselves are just wonderful. You can park at Crow Point end (the sand you can see from our bedroom window, over the mouth of the river) and walk for miles. There is much wildlife and beautiful plants to see. The 'Big' sand dune (now not quite so big) is fab to run up and roll down.

13 miles Saunton Barnstaple Beautiful beach Depending on time of year traffic can be really bad and queues can be long If you want to go to Saunton in the summer I would get the bus. You would get the 21 to Barnstaple then change for Croyde 21c

Our local beach.... great for surf, sandcastles and long walks - 5 plus miles of it... set off early to get a parking space without the queue, or go down in the late afternoon when everyone else is leaving... that's what the locals do.
